As you may already know…
When my mother was 16 years old…she was diagnosed with a severe form of gum disease which eventually led to her losing many of her teeth.
But what you may not know is how gum disease can increase your risk of developing heart disease.
Unfortunately for you and me, preventing heart disease doesn’t come down to brushing twice per day.
While there appears to be some connection between oral health and heart disease, there’s still a lot more we could learn.
Still…studies have shown:
Gum disease is associated with an increased risk of developing heart disease.
If you have poor dental health, you’re at risk of a bacterial infection getting into the bloodstream - which can affect the heart valves.
A pattern of tooth loss is a precursor to possible coronary artery disease.
Evidence suggests that people with diabetes benefit from periodontal treatment.
With that being said…even though oral health might not prevent heart disease, it’s still important to practice good oral health.
If you’re brushing your teeth twice a day…
And scheduling regular dental checkups and cleanings…you’re taking the first steps toward maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
